Cat Care Zone: Walking the Cat? by Jay Grey

Ever though thing about take your kitty for a walk? Most people think nothing of taking old their dog for a walk but many will ever consider taking their family cat for a walk. Well I’m here to tell you that it can be done. With a little bit of encouragement and some patients you have your strolling along with you in no time.

You may believe that your cat should stay in all year round. Perhaps your worried you cat would get lost or wonder out into traffic. It could be you’re worried about your can attacking small animals such as bird or chip monks. But I believe that your cat would benefit greatly by the experience of being outdoors. It will relieve them of being bored and the exercise they receive is beneficial.

To remedy your fears you can control your cat by providing a safe controlled outing by getting your cat use to a harness and a lead.

Harnesses and leads can be purchased at a known pet store or departments store. If you can not find one meant for a cat a small harness made for a small breed dog, like a Chihuahua, will work fine.

Let your cat inspect the harness and leash when you bring them home. When the cat no longer seems interested in the harness, it’s time to try it on for size. Start leaving the harness on for small increments of time and then increase the time it is on slowly. Five minuets is a good starting point and work up from there. Within two to three weeks you cat should be use to wearing.

You should next try to take your cat outside with a lead attached. A good start is by sitting outside with your cat and let it explore and get use to being restrained. The next step is to try to encourage your cat to take a few steps with you. Food tidbits can help tremendously to get an unwilling kitty to move with you.

You might find after you get you cat to walk small distances with you that he actually enjoys going outside and will start waiting at the door to go out.

Once you are walking your cat you will both be getting: Exercise - Good Share a closer relationship " Great Seeing the astonished faces of the people who see you, “walking the cat” " Priceless.
