Do you ever get the feeling that maybe your dog has grown tired of getting fed the same old thing, day after day? The commercial dog food you're giving him might be boring; he might be ready for a change. Of course you might give him treats every once in a while, but those aren't a healthy staple for your dog. If you really want to improve the nutritional value of his diet, try natural dog food. Do some homework and you'll be able to choose a natural dog food that both you and your pet will love.

The typical dog needs a diet that is balanced. It should contain a minimum of 40% protein, a maximum of 30% fiber and 30% starch. When choosing natural dog food, look at the ingredients to make sure they satisfy these dietary requirements. Also check the first few ingredients to see that they aren't simply meat byproducts, instead of real ingredients that contain protein like chicken or lamb.

A well-planned vegetarian diet can work well for dogs, and may be a preferred option if your dog has an allergy to meats, or if you have an objection to feeding your dog meat. There are several commercial vegetarian dog foods available on the market. Dogs require protein, but not necessarily animal protein. Some preservatives may be necessary to keep the food edible, but preservatives do not have to be artificial chemicals that might be cancer-causing agents. It is well established that vitamin E and vitamin C are great preservatives that are so much better for your dog.

Premium dog food is the best choice for your dog. Lifes Abundance dog food is processed with fresh, wholesome ingredients. It is full of vitamins and high quality proteins for your dog. There are no by-products and no grains that are difficult for your dog to digest, like corn, wheat, gluten and soy. It is also important to note that there are no artificial flavors, sugars or chemical preservatives.

Unfortunately, the most inexpensive ingredients are usually pretty unhealthy. Getting quality nutrition is going to be pricier, but it will be worth it. Holistic foods are natural and nutritious. Why feed your dog sub par food with ingredients that you wouldn't touch yourself?

If you have time try making your own dog food. Plenty of recipes and meal plans are available nowadays. Consult your veterinarian to make sure the diet is well-balanced, but bear in mind that most veterinarians have not been trained in nutrition, and may suggest certain commercial dog foods that can actually be very bad for your dog. Nutritional requirements of different dogs can be different, so it can be important to consult with your veterinarian to determine what foods best meet your dog's needs.

It's important that anytime you change your dog's diet, you do it gradually. Doing so is easier on the dog's digestive system and minimizes adverse reactions to the new food. Try utilizing the following algorithm to introduce new foods. The proportion of new food to old food should be incrementally 1/4, 1/3, 2/3, 3/4, and finally, 1. Allow several days to pass between changing the proportion, at least 5 days. Making the shift from the old food to the new should not take much longer than one month.
