Make Use of Your Dog Photos by Rebecca Garland

When you take dog photos you often do so with the understanding that the pictures are for your own use - not for public display. While you may take pictures sparingly, you will likely end up with far more dog photos than you need for a photo album or frame on your desk. If your pictures are digital, however, you may have other options for using your extra dog photos.

Take Them Public On websites such as Woofsites.com and photo sharing sites, you can make your photos available for the world to see. Rather than keeping your pictures to yourself, you can even assign them a creative commons license on some sites and allow others to take your photos for use on their websites and projects.

If you have a photographer's eye, feel free to take creative pictures of your pets. Go ahead - dress your dog up and snap his picture. Get dog photos of every pose, posture and position your pet enjoys throughout the day. Head outside and get a few action shots while you throw the Frisbee or teach him to chase a ball.

Then, come back inside and upload the pictures to your various web accounts. Put your favorites on your pet's personal Woofsite or website and then throw the rest out for the world to use at will. Not only is this a great excuse to take as many pictures as you want, you'll also be able to get publicity and visitors to other websites or profiles you may have. Then you can discuss being a pet owner or to share other photos with visitors - perhaps even share some photos you're selling instead of giving away.

Go Artistic You can offer your dog photos to the world to use for its artistic whims or you can get rather artistic yourself. Take your digital dog photos and work with them in a photo editing program to make unusual collages and collections of prints. Embed different colors and try different crops and effects to create a one-of-a-kind, highly personalized style of artwork to use in your home.

Over time, you may even develop a style that might be popular with other animal lovers. Start with your pet photos and modify them to become a piece of true artistic genius. Then, have the artwork printed professionally and take it to a local flea market or street fair. You never know who might be interested in what you have to offer. You may make enough to justify a new digital camera and upgraded software.

If you're web savvy, you can sell your dog photo art online though a website. Print and frame pictures for sale at local markets, and then include snapshots or watermarked images on your website to reach even more potential customers. When you've gained experience with your own dog photos as the basis of contemporary art, why not open up your services to others at the market or online. Preserve their pets in artwork - for a small fee of course.
