DOG OBEDIENCE TRAINING
MAKE THE PUPS KNOW WHO'S IN CHARGE They can ruin everything from your bags to your clothes, your bed sheets to your curtains.
HUNTING THE RIGHT HOUND Many sporting dogs are still used as hunting companions today, although their gentle natures and high level of trainability have also earned them the reputation of being among the best family dogs. Belonging to this group are some of the most intelligent dog breeds which include the admired German Shepherd, most famous for its police work and the Border Collies, the most intelligent of all breeds. Very bright, trainable and rather determined breeds such as Rottweilers, Dobermans and Akitas have become extremely popular, even trendy. Reliable, brawny and harnessing first-rate stamina, they make great companions for adults and children alike. They range from the tall and lanky Irish Wolfhound to the short-legged Dachshund in size. They are the original hunting dogs, many pre-dating the gun-assisting hunters in their sporting group. Unfortunately, these are the dogs you're likely to find at the local shelter or dog pound, often the result of accidental breeding between two un-sterilized dogs. Terrier breeds are diverse, and some of them are listed here: Airedale Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier, Australian Terrier, Bedlington Terrier, Border Terrier, Bull Terrier, Cairn Terrier, Dandie Dinmont Terrier, Glen of Imaal Terrier, Irish Terrier, Kerry Blue Terrier, Lakeland Terrier, Manchester Terrier, Miniature Bull Terrier, Miniature Schnauzer, Norfolk Terrier, Norwich Terrier, Parson Russell Terrier, Scottish Terrier, Sealyham Terrier, Skye Terrier, Smooth Fox Terrier, Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier, Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Welsh Terrier, West Highland White Terrier, Wire Fox Terrier. These Terriers are all great dogs and with the right effort can be trained easily. If you can't decide between a Shepherd, a Setter or a Poodle, get them all, adopt a mutt, a mixed breed. These dogs are often some of the smartest, gentlest and most easily trained of all dogs. Hound dog breeds, a catchall phrase for breeds that do not seem to fit in elsewhere, from the cuddly Bichon Frise, a little too big to be considered a toy, to the striking Dalmatian and the stunning but difficult Chow Chow. Some dog breeds under this group include American Eskimo Dog, Bichon Frise, Boston Terrier, Bulldog, Chinese Shar-Pei, Chow Chow, Dalmatian, Finnish Spitz, French Bulldog, Keeshond, Lhasa Apso, Lowchen, Poodle, Schipperke, Shiba Inu, Tibetan Spaniel and Tibetan Terrier. In more modern times, the Poodle's intelligence and trainability saw it employed in show business, commonly in circuses. Kid-friendly dog breeds. While most breeds of dogs are great with young children some are even more gentle than others and can easily be trained so that you will never have to worry about your child being around them. This group includes the sheepdogs and cattle dogs, including the amiable Collie breeds, Golden Retrievers and that regal breed, the Corgis.
THE ANATOMY OF A CANINE The long hair of the Lhasa Apso is due to a naturally prolonged growth phase that was emphasized by selective breeding for thermal protection and aesthetic reasons. You probably would like to know why these canine chums want to always stick out their tongue, we'll tell you. Even the size of a canid's ears plays a part in temperature control. All dog paws are the same, although there are variations in shape depending on the breed's bone structure. The fur can be puffed up to trap warm air in cold weather or held closely against the skin to release heat on warm days. Most hound dogs feature hanging or pendant ears, while many terriers have semi-erect button ears in which the tips fold over and hang in a V-shape, partially covering the opening. Consider the most noticeable dog feature first- the hair. The wire-haired coat of the dachshund features a higher quantity and density of the harsh primary hairs in a dog's coat. Well, here's the information you need to know to get to know and love your dog better and make him or her a better trained pet.
